The District

The District

East Scarsdale District is one of 15 Scouting Districts in Derbyshire. The district is located on the border of the County and is north east of Derbyshire.

East Scarsdale District takes in the surrounding villages of Bolsover, Barlborough, Clowne, Inkersall, Shirebrook and Whitwell.

At present Scouting in East Scarsdale District consists of:

  • 6 Scout Groups, each comprising their own Beaver, Cub, and Scout sections
  • 1 Scout Band
  • 3 Explorer Scout Units

District Youth Commissioners support volunteers in their District (including Section Leaders, Group Scout Leaders, Assistant District Commissioners, and District Explorer Scout Commissioners), helping them to understand the importance of being youth shaped and put it into practice.

Local Training Manager

Act as line manager for Training Advisers. Plan and ensure the delivery of the learning provision in their area of responsibility so that all adults in Scouting completing a personal learning plan have access to suitable learning opportunities using a variety of methods.

Nights Away Adviser

Nights Away Advisers support adults through the process of gaining a Nights Away Permit so that they can take young people on residential experiences. They also provide advice on camping and residential experiences in general to other adults in Scouting.

Active Support Manager

Scout Active Support is a way for adults to volunteer some time to Scouting in a flexible way that suits them. Scout Active Support is a resource for managers of local Scouting including Group Scout Leaders, District Commissioners and County Commissioner, to use in which ever way is required.

A Duke of Edinburgh Award Adviser supports The Scouts, a Licensed Organisation, to deliver the award locally.

Camp Site Warden

The role of camp site warden is to support the DC in managing the growth and Development of Scouting in the district through the management of the District campsite in order to deliver primarily to Scout Groups and Units but also to other youth organisations a rewarding outdoor experience in accordance with the Scout Association guidelines.

Meet Our Executive Committee

District Chair

The Chair will lead the Executive Committee, ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities within the Group, District or County/Area/Region. The Chair will work closely with the Group Scout Leader/ relevant Commissioner to achieve the purpose of The Scout Association through the development of local Scouting, in accordance with the Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association.

Act as Secretary to the Group Scout Council. Act as Secretary to the Group Executive Committee. Work closely with and support the Group Chair. Maintain records and lists of members and associate members as required for the effective administration of the Scout Group.
