Explorers are tested on their abilities across a wide range of skills with competitions seeing them do first aid, building bridges, survival exercises, incident hikes.
Explorer Scouts are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the fourth Section of the Scouting family. There are many types of Explorer Scout Units, some may be linked to your local Scout Group, others may be based around different activities.
Not all Units meet each week, because you will often be out and about at weekends or in the holidays doing activities. There will be times when you will be busy doing other things such as exams, and being an Explorer Scout will have to fit around these.

Explorers;
- make their own decisions

- challenge themselves
- work as a team
- learn about leadership and commitment
- undertake outdoor activities and challenges
- help others
- undertake advanced proficiency schemes

How do I join?
Perhaps you know a friend who is a Explorer…ask them if you can come along to a Unit meeting and see what all the fuss is about. Take a look at the groups page to find the nearest Unit to where you live. You can complete a join form or contact us, who will give you any details you may wish to know.
Most groups will be glad to let you stay for a night or two to see what it is like. You will need to bring your parent/guardian along so that a few forms can be filled in. If you enjoy Scouting (and many people do!) you can find out how to become a full member from the leaders at your chosen group.
